BMW Mini & Mini Cooper Click any image for a larger picture An instant classic, the new Mini needs no introduction from us. A sucessful race series and favourite street tuned car, the new mini is already a legend. With racing in mind, we decided to gibe the new mini the CNCHEADS treatment. The standard head was put on the flow bench. With 117 CFM inlet and a quite poor 66 CFM for exhaust, the standard head is certainly nothing to shout about especially for a modern engine from BMW !!! We set to work and the results were very pleasing. Inlet flow is up a very handy 16.6% at 139CFM but the real gains on this head are in the exhaust. Improved by a massive 57.7% to 104.1CFM. This head really will free the potential for this engine. Potential which the excellent chassis of the new mini will easily cope with. When you look at tuning your Mini, consider this.... You will not gain more power per pound spent than fitting one of these heads. If you race these cars, this head will give you the edge over the competition. If you want a fast street car, track day car or Autocross car this head will thrill and impress you. Any way you look - its money well spent. Cost for this head pair is £950.00 + vat (£350 exchange). A 'taping' service is also available for this head at an additional cost of £100 which will give the final hand finish to the ports and provide a further 1% flow. This price includes valves. Note : flow diagrams show flow against specific valve openings at 0.050 inch valve openings at 10" pressure. Therefore actual flow volume increase is measured as the area under the graph (indicated in yellow for inlet and blue for exhaust). Standard valve sizes are used on our heads unless specified as a big valve version. Tests shown here are carried out on a flow bench on a bare head without filters. Therefore the difference between a standard engine with standard inlet ducting and filters will be larger than shown here.
