MAZDA MX5 (1.6, 1.8, 2.0)

Everyones favourite soft top. An inspired balance of power , weight, size and handling. The MX5 is a really is fun on wheels. We saw that there was a demand for tuning parts for this car and a racing scene so we set about developing a gas flowed cyinder head for the MX5. We're very pleased with the result on this head. Inlet flow up 22% and exhaust flow up 21%. By any measure this is a great improvement especially when you consider that the standard head is pretty good. Our estimate for this head is power of up to 224 BHP with good torque from the mid range onwards.


This head would be great for improving power for road use and would definately give a substantial edge in competitive MX5 racing. There is also a small turbo and supercharger scene for the MX5. This head would also be superb in those circumstances.

Unlike most gas flowed cylinder head vendors, we publish our flow graphs and stand by them. Our technology guarantees that what you see here is what you get. The head we sell has exactly the flow we promise and we can back that up with advice and services which will deliver everything we promise in terms of power.


This head is a racing item but it's important to realise that the head is suitable for any state of tune. If you have other modifications, this head will release the full potential of those mods. You may have to make further modifications to benefit properly. Ultimately any modification is limited by the cylinder head.... this head raises that limit by quite a margin.

Cost for this head is £750.00 + vat on an exchange basis. (£350 exchange). A 'taping' service is also available for this head at an additional cost of £100 which will give the final hand finish to the ports and provide a further 1% flow.

Note : flow diagrams show flow against specific valve openings at 0.050 inch valve openings at 25" pressure. Therefore actual flow volume increase is measured as the area under the graph (indicated in yellow for inlet and blue for exhaust). Standard valve sizes are used on our heads unless specified as a big valve version. Tests shown here are carried out on a flow bench on a bare head without filters. Therefore the difference between a standard engine with standard inlet ducting and filters will be larger than shown here.

Custom made Camshafts

With all of our gas flowed heads we also provide a custom made camshaft service. These camshafts are designed to optimise the flow characteristics of our heads. They can also be specifically designed to deliver the power characteristcs you require for your specific application.

Your existing camshaft will work with our heads, however, if you want to get the most from one of these heads or you have a particular power characteristc you are looking for, we recommend that you consider our custom camshafts.

Price £500 + vat

We are happy to discuss and advise on any aspect of modifying your engine with one of our heads to achieve the results we predict above. We can also supply the best quality gaskets, camshaft, valves, valve springs and head bolts to go with your new cylinder head. We also specialise in electronic engine management, carb and fuel injection , turbo and supercharger systems. We build race engines too. Built and tested on our own 1000bhp Engine Dyno. We can also fit your head to your engine if required and test your vehicle on our rolling road.
