FORD Crossflow (Iron head)

Since first appearing in 1967, the immensely popular Kent Crossflow engine has been used to power various models of Cortina, Capri, Escort and, in transverse form, the XR2 Fiesta. It has been an option for kitcars and Morgan, Caterham 7 and Westfield sports cars, also achieving lasting fame in many areas of motorsport.

The measurements of this head show a substantial gain on the inlet port flow of 24.1%. On the exhaust side a very impressive 35% improvement is seen with a broad spread across the lift range. These are very substantial improvements on the standard head and definately release the potential of the engine. Don't forget, we stand by our flow figures and all cylinders in the head are balanced. This is a real quality improvement probably not feasible on a one off custom gasflow basis. With suitable improvements to fueling, camshaft and exhaust, this head can flow enough air to provide up to 176 BHP at 7800 rpm or 154 BHP at 5900 rpm.... Not bad at all for an old two valve iron head !!

Remember also, our heads are not just polished or ground out by hand. Gas flowing an Iron head is very hard work by hand. The process which produces this head uses a CNC machine to remove substantial material from the head. This is just not feasible by manual methods. This head is a substantially modified item using a precison, computer guided engineering tool to replicate a head which itself took weeks to perfect.

But we can do better !! If you need more than this, have a look at our Alloy Big Valve Crossflow head. CLICK HERE

Cost for this head is £475.00 + vat. A 'taping' service is also available for this head at an additional cost of £100 which will give the final hand finish to the ports and provide a further 1% flow.

Note : flow diagrams show flow against specific valve openings at 0.050 inch valve openings at 10" pressure. Therefore actual flow volume increase is measured as the area under the graph (indicated in yellow for inlet and blue for exhaust). Standard valve sizes are used on our heads unless specified as a big valve version. Tests shown here are carried out on a flow bench on a bare head without filters. Therefore the difference between a standard engine with standard inlet ducting and filters will be larger than shown here.
