BMW M3 2.5 litre DTM (E30)
The BMW E30 M3 is a great touring car racer and was also used sucessfully for rallying. We recently built a race engine for classic saloon car racing. As part of that race engine build, we figured such a classic racer car deserved the best gas flowed head we could develop. We set to work using our Brand new Superflow 1020 flow bench with aim of producing a head which could deliver more power than the best M3 engines competing in the German DTM championship when these cars raced back in the late 80's. Our aim was 340BHP.
We used the best components throughout the engine build of course but, as we all know, there is always a finite limit to the power of any engine if the head cannot flow enough fuel and air to the cylinders and explel the spent gases through the exhaust. The target power output was high but we exceeded our own expectations on the flow bench. Our flowbench prediction was proven when the head was installed and tested on our in-house dyno. 385BHP @ 8900RPM !!.
This makes it a highly competitive engine for racing and even if you didn't go for the full race specification of our race engine it would easily enhance your existing set up for this engine. If you have a standard engine, we can advise on tuning options for your needs from discrete road tuning through to full-on race winning potential.
So, do you race this engine ? Are you lucky enough to have an E30 M3 and considering tuning for fast road, race or track days ? We can supply this exact same head for your engine. We can build an engine to your budget or specification. Call Ric Wood for further details.
This classic race car deserves nothing less !
Cost for this head is £1500.00 + vat on an exchange basis. Valves are extra on this head at £400.00 a set + VAT.
A 'taping' service is also available for this head at an additional cost of £100 which will give the final hand finish to the ports and provide a further 1% flow.
Note : flow diagrams show flow against specific valve openings at 0.050 inch valve openings at 25" pressure. Standard valve sizes are used on our heads unless specified as a big valve version. Tests shown here are carried out on a flow bench on a bare head without filters. Therefore the difference between a standard engine with standard inlet ducting and filters will be larger than shown here.
