The ‘K’ series engine as used in the Caterham seven, Westfield, MGF and Lotus Elise, is a compact and light unit capable of high specific outputs. It comes in three displacements, 1400cc, a larger bored 1600cc and a stroked 1800cc. It is a popular engine in motorsport due to its relatively light weight and performance potential. The cylinder head is of twin overhead cam design, 4 valve with a classic pent-roof combustion chamber design.

We have achieved spectacular results with this head. As the data shown below shows , we have a 40% improvement at peak lift with large increases across the lift range. Likewise, the exhaust flow is also substantially improved. The engine is restricted by a poor quality head. Our head releases the true potential of this excellent engine. 205 BHP is possible with this head with suitable modifications to fueling, camshaft and exhaust. If you want better performance from your engine for road, trackday or race purposes, our K series head is a a must-have bolt on modification.

 

Cost for this head is £850.00 + vat on an exchange basis. (£350 exchange). A ‘taping’ service is also available for this head at an additional cost of £100 which will give the final hand finish to the ports and provide a further 1% flow.

Note : flow diagrams show flow against specific valve openings at 0.050 inch valve openings at 10″ pressure. Therefore actual flow volume increase is measured as the area under the graph (indicated in yellow for inlet and blue for exhaust). Standard valve sizes are used on our heads unless specified as a big valve version. Tests shown here are carried out on a flow bench on a bare head without filters. Therefore the difference between a standard engine with standard inlet ducting and filters will be larger than shown here.
